GROWING BULBS INDOORS

Growing bulbs indoors can be just as advantageous as growing them outside. By growing your bulbs indoors, you can keep a regular eye on your plants. However, it is important that you are aware of exactly what your bulbs need in order for your plants to grow successfully. There may be certain parts of the house which are more suitable for growing bulbs, so it is important to be aware of how much light and water your bulbs require.

The most common types of bulbs that are suitable for growing indoors are daffodils, hyacinths and tulips. These are the most available and there are many types of each so you may wish to do a little research and see what types you like before deciding to grow them indoors.

Before you proceed to grow your bulbs indoors, you will need to make sure that you have the appropriate equipment that your bulbs will require. Plastic pots and potting compost are the most vital items. In some cases, you may wish to use bulb fibre, which sweetens the soil. It is essential that the soil is moist before the bulbs are planted.

After you have planted the bulbs, the plunging process will begin. This is where the bulbs are placed in a cool, dark area before they begin to flower. You will need to find a suitable place in your home to place the bulbs for this process. If you have a garden shed, then this is an ideal place for the plunging process. You can also use a garage. After you have located a suitable place, the potted plants will need to be kept inside a polythene bag with holes pierced into it.

The plants will need to be checked regularly and provided with water whenever the compost appears dry. Once the bulbs have begun to sprout, you can transfer them from wherever you placed them for the plunging process back into your home, where they can be placed inside a planting pot. To keep them at their best, locate the coolest room in your home and place the plants in there.
